How Do You Know You Have Water Damage?
Finding water damage is a hit or miss game. Sometimes you notice right off the bat, sometimes you can tell a little, and sometimes you don’t even know at all until something bad happens. One of the most difficult places to spot water damage is in your bathroom, simply because it’s common to see water in there! Pipes aren’t your only concern in here. Other dangers such as leaky seals, poor caulking/grout, and even fractured tiles can cause water damage. With all of these sneaky ways the water can become a problem it’s important to know the signs.
Scent. Water damage can create a funny scent in the area. If after hours of scrubbing you realize that there is still a funky smell coming from the bathroom, there’s a chance that there could be water damage lurking within.
Squishy floors. Homes with wooden framework will notice this. If water has built up in an area, underneath the floor will start to rot away. This will give it a cushiony/spongy feel. If you stumble across this issue, stay out of the area and call a water restoration company right away. In that condition, the floor has potential to collapse.
Warping. Warping will occur when water is consumed by drywall. The drywall will swell up and lose all firmness. This will have the same effect as the squishy flooring. The walls have potential to come crashing down if the issue is avoided.
Mold. Probably the most obvious of the group. Mold will grow on the inside and make its way out. If you can see mold, there is a serious problem. Although not all molds are harmful, keep in mind that it does have potential to cause health problems.
