Fall And Water Damage
Can you believe it’s October already? The months are just flying by this year! It will be snowing before you know it! Winter is actually the one of the most common time to receive water damage in the home. To avoid future issues with water damage, it’s smart to plan ahead. You may be thinking, “There are still a few more months before I need to worry about that”. But, in reality, it’s never too soon to prepare for potential water damage. Preparing for water damage really is not as difficult and time consuming as it may sound. Just make sure to maintain regular check-up schedules and fix anything that may be amiss.
Personally, I like to start with the roof. It’s one area that will always take a hit from rain, snow, sleet, debris, etc. Because the roof has to deal with all of this weight for months on end, it’s a good idea to check for holes and missing/broken shingles. If you’re not a fan of ladders, start in the attic! Stand in the attic and check for any light shining through. If you can see light, patch up the problem and ensure the light isn’t peeking through anymore.
Keep in mind that water stains or water marks is another identifier you should look out for. Water has the ability to puddle up and not only create water damage, but put even more pressure on the structure of the home. It can also cause mold.
Next, check out the gutters. Gutters and downspouts are other common areas of concern. These two see everything the roof does. So, when there are obstacles in the way, overflow is bound to occur. Overflow simple means the water goes over the railing and drips down the side of or near the home. You’re not guaranteed a water damage problem, but hey, do you really want to risk it? No, so try to keep the gutters as clear as possible.
There’s no right or wrong time to prepare for water damage. Just remember, any time water damage has been detected, ensure the problem is taken care of immediately. Water damage doesn’t just go away. It needs to be taken care of quickly and properly. Call our professional water restoration company for a free estimate today!
